The problem

Accounting standards
IAS 41 Agriculture governs how biological assets and agricultural produce are measured. Knowing where Agri-Life fits — and where it doesn't — matters before you build a financial reporting process around it.
Biological assets are generally measured at fair value less costs to sell, with changes recognized in profit or loss. Agricultural produce is measured the same way at the point of harvest. Bearer plants fall under IAS 16 — the produce growing on them stays within IAS 41.
Every operational event that drives biological transformation — births, growth, feed and medication consumption, healthcare interventions, transfers, mortality, harvest, and sale — feeding the data an entity needs for its IAS 41 valuation and reporting process.
Agri-Life's accumulated production-cost calculations are a management cost and operational analytics layer. They support an entity's IAS 41 valuation process — they do not, by themselves, replace the required fair-value-less-costs-to-sell measurement. After harvest, agricultural produce generally moves into the inventory accounting framework applicable to the harvested product, including IAS 2 where relevant. The precise valuation methodology and accounting entries should be configured and approved based on the entity's applicable IFRS accounting policy.
